Key Tips
Advice for businesses starting an affiliate program
-
Treat affiliates like customers
Promoters need to be acquired, activated and retained. They won’t promote your product unless you hold their hands closely and incentivize them strongly.

-
How do you recruit affiliates?
Mainly through two channels: their own customer base, since customers already have first-hand experience with the product and want to share it with their network and their network of info-marketers, who can add a revenue stream by promoting a SaaS product that doesn’t compete with what they already sell.
-
Do you use any specific tactics to onboard and activate affiliates?
Co-hosting a live webinar works well, since it gives the affiliate a specific date to work towards.
-
What are the most important metrics you are following?
Revenue, cash collected, number of leads, earnings per lead and refund rate.
-
Which features have been the most helpful for your affiliate program?
Seeing full details on referred customers: email, date joined, attempted purchases, plan joine, has helped them catch a small number of fraud attempts. Being able to move affiliates between campaigns, for example from a 20% tier to a 10% tier once they’re promoting to warmer traffic, has also been valuable.

Did you try other affiliate management platforms? If so, why weren’t they right for you?
No, FirstPromoter was already the preferred platform of the affiliate manager who set up their program.
